Walk and Talk; Counselling in nature. I believe that the natural world has the ability to help us connect more deeply to our true selves. So I offer an alternative to room-based counselling, taking clients into nature where it can weave it's magic, mirroring our feelings, taking us step by step into the realm of heart and soul.
I use person-centred principles, believing that each person can work through their distress to find their own unique potential and wellbeing, when they are supported by empathic understanding with loving acceptance in an honest and authentic way. The outdoors can offer a safe and inspiring space in which to do this. Nature becomes an important third partner in the therapautic relationship that we share. Why outdoor counselling? Nature is a great resource which has always been available to us, offering us a connection to create perspective, inner calm and healing. Trees, plants, wild animals, birds, the elements and the cycle of the seasons - all these can be our teachers; mirroring our feelings and offering us the opportunity to increase our self-awareness.
Why Walking? The act of standing upright, putting one foot in front of the other, is the most positive, primal way of stepping out on the path towards self-discovery and fulfilment. I will be your companion on this journey.
The rhythm of walking causes Bilateral Stimulation; when both left and right hemispheres of the brain are fully functioning and communicating with eachother. When this happens you cannot not process whatever issues you are looking into. Who does it work for? People living with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, relationship & family difficulties or major life transitions can benefit from this kind of therapy. It offers a great opportunity to look into and explore the things that get in the way of us achieving our full potential.
